He says he doesn't believe his father knew what he was doing and that recent strokes may have contributed to the elder Oller's anger. He said in the past, his father has even coached his singing.
"He don't need to spend his last days in prison or jail," Oller Jr. says of his father. "He needs to spend them with his family."

I can understand the son's point of view. My husband had several strokes in the early 2000s and by 2006 was suffering vascular dementia. In 2007 he pulled a gun on me thinking I was trying to rob him :( I tried to convince the cops to take him to the hospital but hubby refused to go so the cops said they had to take him to jail. Even when the judge saw how out of it my husband was he still wouldn't 'force' him to accept medical treatment. When hubby had another stroke in jail they finally sent him to hospital where he got diagnosed with dementia. Once the courts had 'proof' that he was ill they dropped the felony charges of intimadation with a weapon and ordered hubby into a nursing home for treatment.
I understand the son wanting his dad to spend his last days with his family but it may be necessary to place him in a place that can protect not only the father but his family too.

It is a very sad situation and I feel both sad and proud of the son for understanding the situation the way he does.
I am sorry you had to cope with a similar situation. And I am happy you survived it.
